Family's Precious Memories of Ann: A Legacy of Love and Inspiration

What is your earliest memory of her?

"I first met Ann Lindh in 1957 as the younger sister of my classmate. Although initially unnoticed while I was dating someone else, by 1958, after a breakup, I first noticed Ann as being a very nice looking young lady while attending a teen singles group. That evening, I suggested we go to a drive-in movie in my sister's convertible. The next night, I asked Ann out, marking the start of our 65-year journey together. During the summer of 1958, we went on three dates a week and talked every night. By the following summer, I gave her my class ring." - Paul
"My earliest memory of her is watching her as she came home from her father’s funeral.  She was dressed up and beautiful and crying.  I had never seen her sad before.  I remember feeling empathy for the first time, and deep love for her, trying to understand.  I was about 4 years old." - Beth
"I was alway afraid of storms when I was little, one room in our house had an antique rocking chair and a window that faced the direction the storms would come from.  She would rock me as we would watch the storm come across the trees and pass over.  There was a creak that it would make as she would explain how the storms aren’t scary and I held my blanket.  She gave me that rocker when I had my first baby and it still makes the same creak.  I now love storms and will have my kids sit and watch them with me like she would." - Molly
"I remember nap time sometime after lunch when Mom and I would lay down for a break" - Pete
"I remember taking afternoon naps together after coming home from kindergarten. And I remember Mom teaching me to catch crabs in Hilton Head, using a chicken wing, string and a net."  - Tim
"I gotta go with the naps and sitting in the rocking chair during storms, like Molly and Tim.  I always thought that was just me! 🙂" - Kate
"Loving and Caring" - Pete
"Perseverance - Mom never stopped, never slowed down, and never gave up, regardless of the situation." - Tim
"A beautiful, fun-loving person."- Paul
"Empathetic. Mom always thought of how everyone else feels.  She thought about and put herself in the shoes of everyone she saw, and always said, “I bet she feels ___” or “I bet he wishes ___.”  She never stopped being curious about how people were feeling, or what they were experiencing, or what brought them to this point in their lives." - Kate
"Perseverance and fearless - Seriously, all the challenges in life from raising 9 kids, supporting a busy executive husband, moving multiple times.  Then she explored all new challenges in academics, art and sports after we were grown.  Also, the way she battled her FTD.  She just amazes me." - Beth

What word or phrase best describes her?

Can you share a memorable story that captures her personality?

"When I ran my first marathon, I was running for a charity that was supported by Anthony (Tony) Edwards (the actor who played Goose in Top Gun, and Dr. Greene in ER).  I brought Mom and Dad to a pre-marathon party at Tony’s posh apartment in Manhattan.  Mom and I parted ways for half an hour or so, and when we met up again she proceeded to tell me the personal marathon story of every person at the party, including Tony.  She had totally worked the room.  Even though she claimed to be shy, she was incredibly bold." - Kate
"Mom drove with maximum efficiency. If the other lane had one less car waiting at the red light, she would change to that lane without hesitation. She would not only speed up to make it through a yellow light, but she would speed up when the ‘Don’t Walk’ crosswalk sign started blinking before the light even turned yellow. And this drive for efficiency carried into many parts of her personality." - Tim
"Mom’s passed on her confidence to all of us. She wasn’t driven to be the best, but she was driven to be the best she could be." - Tim

What lessons did you learn from her?

How did she influence your life?

"Mom had a strong sense of moral value, and hated lying and cheating." - Tim
"Mom always enjoyed her crossword puzzles!  That is what I would remember her doing every day.  Once I got old enough she would start to teach us card games, I remember her trying to teach Kate and I Bridge, it never stuck lol.  Slap Solitaire and Bananagrams were always a hit as well.  Later she started to paint, she was great.  She had an art studio at both houses and took many pictures of wildlife and scenery to be her inspiration.  As her grandkids grew older she would start to teach them drawing and painting." - Molly
"Ann dedicated her first 30 years to being a super-mom, raising our children, managing the household, and teaching. She then pursued her degree from The Ohio State University, took up tennis, and began painting and sculpting. Later, she switched from tennis to golf, but continued her artistry." - Paul
"Mom loved the family being with each other as much as possible. From every meal to every holiday." - Tim

What were her favorite ways to spend time?

What was her proudest moment?

"Her proudest moment was when she first became a mom."- Paul
"It will always be when she went to college.  She started when I was in middle school and her first course was astronomy.  She would take courses that sounded fun just to do something with her time, then it turned into her getting her degree.  She was so proud of finishing, she purposely wanted to be part of the Spring Commencement so she could walk across the OSU football field.  We all made it in for the event, but it became even more memorable for another reason.  In 1997, for the first time in 56 years, Spring Commencement was canceled due to the rain that day.  It started and then the rain became so heavy that they had to cancel, we couldn’t even hear announcements.  We were still so proud of our mom and we knew this would always be remembered for years and she was part of that OSU history. " - Molly
"Remember her as a fun, kind, and loving person
who was always there to support and help her children." - Paul

What would you like people to remember about her?

Is there anything else you’d like to share about her?

"I always remembered mom working on newspaper crossword puzzles, she always sat on the far left side of the kitchen table with her calendar and newspaper.  She would have her morning coffee and would be able to look out the window to the backyard.  That was mom’s spot.  And if we needed that side of the table everything was neatly stacked and hidden in the roll-top desk." - Molly
